A couple of years ago, my wife and I wanted to take a trip to Europe, during the winter. We didn't want to pay for the tickets, so we wanted to redeem some of the millions of miles (literally) I had accumulated on Cathay Pacific over the years. Fligths were very full so we put in applications for London, Paris, Rome and Frankfurt figuring that one of them would come through and we could work out how to handle the holiday in any of those destinations. The Rome flights came through quite quickly and we decided to confirm them. This was winter and the idea of a very cold Rome was not so appealing, so a further seelction was done of warmer destinations - that is south - within 2 hours flying. The selection was Sicily and flighst to Palermo were the result. It turned out to be an excellent choice.
We decided to base ourselves in Palermo - which was not a good idea as it meant I had to do some very long drives. And hired a Fiat 500 to blend in with the locals. I carried a collection of cameras, both digital and film - with the Hasselblad XPan being the unusual one. I got a lot of photos from the trip and spent 3 weeks afterwards sorting them all out and getting the seelctions right. I went to my film lab with 40 rolls of film the day I got back.
I hope you like the selection - comments welcome.
